Project: Hagioscope frame

Client: Stephen Walter

Completion date: June 2013

Materials: Walnut frame with veneered panel shutters, various internal components

Description: Designed and fabricated by James Shearer in collaboration with artist Stephen Walter, the Hagioscope frame was built to house the drawing "Nova Utopia" for Walter's 2013 solo London show Anthropocene. The map encased is explored through the illuminated magnifying lens, which can be moved to view any part of the image whilst the rest remains hidden by the scrolling shuttering. The result is an intimate and absorbing experience for a single viewer.
